YOUTH GROUP DANCE
By Gretchen Abendschein
The Acworth Youth Group had a tropical dance party on the last Saturday in July. As the Female Charitable Society’s auction was underway across the street, Youth Group members, Lynzee Baronoski, Brigitte Taylor, Rebecca Mailhot and Caroline Mailhot transformed the Town Hall into the scene of a Hawaiian Luau. Brigitte and Rebecca hung colorful streamers over the doorways to mimic beaded curtains, as Lynzee and Caroline hung balloons from the ceiling. A bright pink inflatable dolphin, a floatation device festooned with a ring of yellow smiley faces and a Tiki Head Pinata rounded out the Hawaiian beach party environment.
Youth Group Moms, Melinda Baronoski and Theresa Mailhot, also helped set up the space and decorate for the dance. With music playing, the festive atmosphere was just too infectious. Mothers and daughters alike took to the floor and broke into an impromptu Maquerena dance.
Later that evening the Youth Group and some other teens gathered to enjoy music, dancing, chips, cookies and brownies.

The Tiki head piñata remained intact throughout the night. Lynzee had bought the piñata with her own money and decided to use it just for decoration.
"Lynzee didn’t want to bust open the piñata unless there were thousands and thousands of people there," explained Brigitte. "Well okay, maybe not thousands of people, but LOTS of people."
Although the Youth Group had hoped that more teenagers would show up for the dance, everyone had lots of fun. And the Tiki head piñata lived to see another day.
