BOARD OF SELECTMEN February 16, 2010 Present: Tom Esslinger, John Tuthill, Gretchen Abendschein, Barry Cox (LGC) Public: None Meeting began: 3:00PM Discussion: 1. Discussion took place in which BOS described current Road Agent position, some issues which have lead to this recruitment effort and the need to move from an equipment operator based position to a managerial position; Benefits and department structure were discussed; There was consensus that residency need not be a requirement. 2. BC opined job description supports a salaried (exempt) position and that BOS anticipated compensation is congruent with existing market. 3. BC reviewed LGC’s recruitment assistance program noting areas where search expenses could be conserved; Program recommends initial screening of resumes by LGC, subsequent interviewing of applicants by committee and final interviewing by hiring principals; There was discussion relating to the interview committee with suggestion to use Road Advisory Committee, if willing, with Steve Gray, one Selectmen and noticing for two or three Townspeople. 4. A list of potential media sites for advertising was reviewed with suggestion to use one or two state venues and local concentration. 5. Motion TE/GA to retain the services of LGC for recruitment and hiring of a Road Agent, passed. 6. Motion TE/GA to allocate up to $1,000 for advertising the position, passed. 7. BC will develop classified ad requesting resumes sent to LGC; BOS to review for placement by end February. It was noted that local inquiries should be directed to LGC to be included in the initial screening of respondents by LGC. 8. BC will also forward service agreement to BOS. 9. Notice needed for participation in interview committee. Other: 1. Discussion took place regarding notification of Crane Brook Road culvert grant application site visit by state and FEMA February 25; It was noted that this application had been deemed unapproved by the state, that it appears now to be revived, that opportunity for action by the Budget Committee is past and that DRA recommends amending the Highway budget from the floor of Town Meeting if the Town becomes eligible for a grant and matching funds are required.
